A Rather Unexpected Transition: A Life Together

If you have been following my recent journey in missions you would know that I am currently a student in a program with YWAM Muizenberg called the School of Biblical Studies (SBS). It is an very intense program, that involves a lot of work and studying. Going from staffing to be a student again has been great experience, but from the beginning of the school I have not felt at peace with what I was doing. I felt that God wants me to do an SBS, but because of many factors I don’t believe now is the right timing for that to happen. As of yesterday, I have made the decision that I will end my time as an SBS student, and I will be joining staff with A Life Together DTS starting this July. It may feel sudden or abrupt, but I would say the timing of this could not be better.

A Life Together Discipleship Training School focuses on reconciliation, intentional community, and radical discipleship in the way of Jesus. When I first joined staff with YWAM Muizenberg in August I become close friends with one of the couples who are leading this school, Max and Cambria Melchert. As I asked them about A Life Together I realized that their values and my own lined up so well, and I even spoke to the about what it would look like to staff with them in the future. As I compared my calendar to theirs it appeared as if it was going to be a number of years before I could even consider working with them. With my time in SBS suddenly coming to a close and the staff training for A Life Together starting next week, the timing couldn’t have been any better.

The school will run from June 24th, 2017 through December 15th, 2017. Like any other Discipleship Training school with YWAM it will have two parts: lecture phase and outreach phase. The lecture phase will happen here in Cape Town, and will be the first three month, June 24th through September 15th. Each week will have a different subject topic as well as have a regular rhythm of worship, prayer, and sharing the Eucharist. some of our lecture topics will be The Father/Mother Heart of God, Worldview, Reconciliation & Peacemaking, Missions, The Kingdom of God & more.

After the lecture phase we will be dividing into smaller teams, and heading out from South Africa. From September 16th through December 1st we will be in a number of different nations, witnessing the ever growing Kingdom of God by supporting and partnering with local churches and ministries. I will be leading one of the teams sent out with one of my fellow staff members. After these three months we will heading back to cape town for a tie of debriefing.

Y'all I am so excited to see what will happen in this unexpected, yet joyful journey! I will be posting more information a long the way, as students arrive, outreach locations are made public, and as this beautiful mess unfolds.
